見えるもの、見えたもの

人の記憶に残るということ。

記憶に残った物はその理由の如何を問わず、視覚を通じ、脳にイメージ化されている。
それは例えば、学校の職員室にあった染付の湯呑茶碗や、真昼の公園で木々の梢を次々に飛び交うリス。
しかし、余程訓練されたスパイでもない限り、そこで見た記憶を正確に再生することはできない。
染付の湯呑や、リスの尾が描く放物線が記憶に刻印されるのは、見た物が純化され、記号のように抽象化されるからではないだろうか。

見えたものに今一度出会う、ということ。
古き物の持つ普遍性と新しき物の持つ現代性との出会いが、李作品の存在の強さそのものに思える。
消失点に向かって引かれていく「線」。同じように打ち続けられる「点」。

息をすることも瞬きをすることも忘れてしまうような、”見えるもの”の緊張感をお楽しみいただきたい。

Something visible and Something memorized.

What is it to retain in your memory?

Something retained in your memory will be stored as a visualized image in your brain, whatever reason you keep it.
For example, the image could be a blue and white tea cup in the teachers’ room, as well as one of squirrels jumping from tree to tree in the park early afternoon.
However, you cannot replay exactly what you visually memorized unless you are a well-trained spy.
That might be because all the images you saw, like a blue and white tea cup or a parabolic line formed by the squirrel’s tail, are purified and abstracted as symbols on the process of memorizing.

How is it to re-encounter what you visualized once?

The universality of the old and the modernity of the new.
The encounter of these two elements seems to make Lee’s artworks so energetic.

The Lines go straight toward vanishing points.
The Points placed same way repeatedly.

I hope you enjoy his artworks with his “visible” energy that will take your breath and blink away.
